N=5? What a scholar!
Certainly more scholarly than the n=1 individual sob stories in this thread.
From reading this thread you would think that the majority of Econ positions in the last year was offered to women. That is just not true.
From my experience: Men that believe they don't get a job because they are male are typically men that only excel in posting here, but not in actual research.
Strong male researchers are still coveted by everyone.
Am I a strong male researcher? RR
For sure, that’s the only reason some people here don’t get a job. Not because they are not able to write a decent paper from time to time....
female applicant will get it
I recently gave a Job Talk in Germany. They said I should hear back within the next weeks but haven’t heard anything since then. I guess I‘m out but is this normal?TUM?
At the margin, this matters.
Do you guys really talk about FHs here.It just makes sense to talk about FHs here as well. There is oversupply for professorships at universities. So candidates look for alternatives. By law FH professorships are very similar. Yes, there is a higher teaching load, you don't get a secretary and research associates and the research environment is worse (but the number of research professorships at FHs is increasing). But apart from that? For many this is second-best to a position at a university (for some even first-best). From what I heard there were around 100 applications per FH professorship in economics lately.
Indeed. Frankfurt School is a FH, at the end of the day.

Agree

Ok for me but why don't they let me know that I'm out?
I think this actually has a legal reason (at least at my university): As long as the process is not completed - and this includes someone accepting, not just being given the offer - the process is still open and therefore any information given out is only an interim status. So that's why it can sometimes take ages until you hear.
Now a decent place would simply take the trouble and let you know that you are not on the shortlist. If you called up the chair of the search committee (or the administrator who would put through your request) you might get that information. In terms of phrasing, I would not ask if you are out, just "am I right in assuming that I have not made the shortlist at this point?". This is something they should be able to answer truthfully even if they are chickensh*t about official rules.
Hope that helps.
Frankfurt School has better research output than every other German university ... so if they are a FH, what's everyone else?
