RR's analysis on the US situation...

Harald Uhlig sides with Bernd Lucke and Stefan Homburg in email-List discussions - is he the next AfD supporter among the German Econ profs?
HU also wrote a lot of nonsense about handling of the pandemic in US/Sweden.
Given recent numbers he turned silent though ...RR detected. OMG

I have to say that Rudi Bachmann has gained a lot of respect from me in those past few weeks. He is one of few economists that use their position to speak up against dangerous people like SH, and he cares enough to position himself on issues that transcend ecconomics (and he does it in a way that uses econ expertise rather than ultracrepidarianism). Thank you!

Thank you for sharing, Rudi.

Guten Morgen! I am from China and very interested in Germany, especially about the technology. How can I become a professor there? I mostly care about getting insights into different businesses and their technology (telecommunication, robotics, manufacturing).
Danke sehr! -

Guten How can I become a professor there?
How many pubs in Viertjahreshefte zur Wirtschaftsforschung, Perspektiven der Wirtschaftspolitik and Jahrbücher für Nationalökonomie und Statistik do you need to get W3 in Germany?

How serious is the Handelsblatt ranking? I am an econometrician and it is very strange that Annals of Statistics is not listed there. The reason is that AoS is not on the EconLit list. But it should be clear that this journal is important for economists. It is among the best statistics journals and there are many lower statistics journals (which aren't more related to economics) in the list.

The HB ranking is decent enough to give you a good idea about the general research output and tracetory of researchers. However, you are right in that some in- and exclusions of good journals are strange, especially given that there are literally hundreds of toilet journals included (everything from 300 downwards). I am more concerned about the penalty for multiple authored articles, though. Having, say, an AER with 3 more authors will not do much for your ranking.

It is important that you publish your Habilitationsschrift with a prestigious publisher like Duncker & Humblot. Your Habilitationsschrift should also show that you have a solid command of the most recent important techniques of the profession. Then you can just sit back and wait for a "Ruf". That's how it works here.

What is wrong with having to share the 'fruits' of your joint(!) piece of work weighted by 1/(1 + n)? I guess n=3 in your case?
