Same question as several pages ago: Which German Volkswirt does private consulting and earns a lot of money? And who pays for that? Just asking for a friend.
He did not get tenure in Mannheim and went for early retirement at the age of <40 close to hometown- veey smart and earns tons of mobey via private consulting... I envy him!!

Don’t do it for the title (or do you need to impress your parents?) Do it for the skills. For this to pay off there needs to be a match (as described below)
Sorry, but you approach it from the wrong direction. Don't think about which PhD specializations could be helpful for the private sector. Think about where in the private sector you want to go. Because for 50+% of the jobs the PhD is a net (financial) loss. Consulting, Finance, Data Science: PhD can be helpful, but depends. Everything else (HR, Controlling, Strategy, Business Analytics, Logistics,...): PhD not helpful.

However, what do you think about getting a PhD in Econ just for the private sector? Useful or wasted time and I am just fine with a masters?
I'm not interested in academia anymore since I don't want to deal with all the academic bureaucracy of today or submit myself to politically correct research.
Thanks a lot.depends on your specialization. If you opt for finance, digitization, IO or health and work empirically you'll definitely benefit from making a PhD. If you go for labor or other fields that are useless for the private sector you'll probably regret it.
WU Vienna seems to suffer from severe mismanagement, at least from a research perspective. Almost all of the faculty in accounting is deadwood. They seem to have a few tenure trackers, but judging from their website they are all from their own university. Instead of hiring another deadwood for a "Frauenprofessur", why not promote an open rank position? They could still limit it to female candidates. Two of my recent female PhDs seems to have stronger JM CVs than KH after a decade; one is originally from Germany, so she might even have been interested in a position in Austria.
WU Vienna has filled its accounting full position. Can't comment on the candidate, I've literally never heard of her.After a good recent hire (IG), this seems like akward choice; top publication is a JAPP in 10 years. But maybe I'm looking at the wrong person here.

How long do you typically have to wait to hear back after you‘ve applied for an AP position on Germany (outside the job market). Have applied in September and haven’t heard anything since. Should I ask if there are any news or is this perceived as too offensive or whatever?
It does not hurt to ask politely, but expect a bureaucratic (non-)answer. If you call them, they may be willing to share more details. In writing it is unlikely.
Latest after the job offer was accepted you will get a letter about the conclusion of the job search. This can take up to a year or even longer.

Look for a place where you can just write a thesis and hand it in, even while working full time. This is possible at many universities, but you need to find a willing supervisor. You get the Dr. title and you did not waste any body's time or resources too much.
