The value of many second tier general interest journals and top field journals according to the current forschungsmonitoring journal ranking is lower compared to the 2017 ranking. For example the Journal of Economic Theory SJR weigths in the 2017 Ranking were:
1998: 0.621
1999: 0.529
2000: 0.444
2001: 0.475
2002: 0.571
2003: 0.655
2004: 0.682
2005: 0.603
etc.
According to the current journal ranking we have
1998: 0.407
1999: 0.361
2000: 0.328
2001: 0.324
2002: 0.356
2003: 0.372
2004: 0.384
2005: 0.350
etc. for JET.
This is just an example and appears to be systematic. Very good econ journals are now ranked closer to junk journals, which clearly favors spammers. Is there a rationale for the new weights other than that the 2017 journal ranking did not produce the desired results?

"RB would be an enourmous benefit to German Academia. He really cares about the students and our profession."
Dude, tis guy is known to have bullied grad students as a junior at Michigan and all he cares about is himself. Get over your obsession with him. This is not good for you.

Scholars thinking like this about modern macro shouldn't doing research at all. Anyway, complaining on Twitter about the German system but parallel reducing teaching load by migrating to the US indicates also one doesn't care about students. True heros fighting against bureaucracy in German university and try there best to teach with an pure overload on admin while their research falls behind.
Stop dissing the man. When Rudi was Nachwuchsbeauftragter at the Verein, he gave various 2 day intensive Job market seminars. Which he continued after moving back to the US. As a Nachwuchsbeauftragter he went to a number of universities to talk to the doctoral students there. He went above and beyond for people like us. But all you can do here is diss him.

I agree with him on most points. just wanted to say he has already put down his weapons against the German University administration and system while others are still fighting for better research and teaching in the field. He is not to blame for this, but there are hundreds of professors and research assistants who stay in Germany and put their own careers on the sidelines for improvement in German academia. So from my point of view, those hundreds are at least similar interested in students...

Yes, you are right. Thank you.

^ It’s an absurd argument to say that everyone who works in a suboptimal system is a hero just for doing so. There are plenty of profs in Germany who could not care less about their students. And why should they? Teaching is systematically not valued at German universities.

I never said it's sufficient to stay in German academia to signal interest in students. That's why I wrote, "stay in Germany AND put their own careers on the sidelines...". These are the scholars who care about students even it's not valued. So they are truly and intrinsically interested in younger generations and even more than in gold-plating the end of their career.
But I agree, there are plenty of tenured scholars in Germany who are neither doing research nor are interested in students. But that's another discussion...

What's the difference between an economics journal and a junk journal?
