   Different topic:
   Any experiences on average GRE quant scores for admission to top German PhD programmes (MGSE, Bonn, Mannheim, UZH (CH))?
   Bonn says the average successful candidate has a 165, is this still up-to-date. Munich requires at least >80% (but "most successful candidates blabla >=90%). No info on Mannheim and UZH.

   Nobody?

   I don't know about Mannheim and UZH either. But I know that at least until recently, the GRE at most (all?) places in Germany, is rather a hurdle you have to jump. So it's not like in the US where a particular high score is necessary for getting in the programme. In Germany is more binary, if you below the score you might get rejected straight away, but there is not a big advantage of being better than the threshold mentioned at the website.

   Publisher according to homepage are Sturm and Haucap.

   So Sturm (KOF) and Südekum (DICE) are responsible for this epic disaster?

   It's KOF and Dice. This explains it.

   And if KOF is publisher, how come their own researchers get to their points? IM in young economist ranking has one aer with three authors and one restat with two and one Econ inquiry with four. How does that give 1.09 points? Aer is 0.33, restat 0.2, EI almost zero.

   I am pretty sure there are more cases where not everything is totally correct. It would be best if the details for each author would be visible (which papers are counted, number of coauthors).

   Actually I assume that mistakes can happen also accidentally, partly because the system is not super transparent for authors to use (was at least my experience). Commitment to correct reporting (and to really checking it once more) would be higher if each author had received a summary in a PDF file of all his/her pubs, coauthors etc. and be asked explicitly to confirm once that everything is correct.

   Making small "mistakes" pushes you easily some ranks up...

   Like olympic medals - in case of fraud/doping the next ones receive the medals. But nobody acknowledges these events.

   Und die Moral von der geschicht? Fraudsters get their credit. Nobody cares about corrections... but maybe KOF has placed their candidate...

    That's the end for them. This is really something that matters to first-order.

    Now I know why everybody stopped working at HU: in Berlin, from now on, every postdoc will automatically get tenure. The current president just resigned over that. Berlin universities will go down. I think you cannot trust the local Berlin government with running universities any longer.

    Great: All academias now have a job and become loyal voters for the current parties. If they vote for someone else, jobs might be in danger.

    I think every household should have one mandatory public servant. This is better than "bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen" because now the civil servant takes care of the basic income and if someone in the household behaves "bad" (e.g., non-woke or vote for different parties) then the living standards might no longer be maintained. In the case of "bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen", some might think it is not important to worship the government. I think Berlin is on the right way to replicate the "good old times"

    The new law simply says that postdocs can only be hired on a tenure track. This seems to be uncommon in Germany, but standard in the US, I guess.

    That is not standard in the U.S.; only assistant professor positions are typically tenure track.

    The new Berlin law does not say anything about a "tenure decision" that has anything to do with academic excellence. In practice this will mean that almost everyone on such positions will be tenured.

    The Berlin universities will probably react by drastically reducing the number of postdocs hired on such positions as otherwise it is too costly.

    The new law simply says that postdocs can only be hired on a tenure track. This seems to be uncommon in Germany, but standard in the US, I guess.

    The question is what tenure means. In the UK everyone is tenured, but if you do not produce you will have to teach a lot and earn little. Eventually you will leave. Just create lektor positions and move them there
