Anyone with advice for how to handle your deposit when moving from Germany to the UK? Moving to the UK is what Germans do who don't get a job in Germany, so I think the question fits here and is probably relevant for a few people. Lots of capital gains on my ETFs (all incorporated in Ireland and Luxemburg in case that makes a difference), I suppose I won't get round paying German taxes for them, will I? Moving around May so less than half a year in Germany in 2022, does that make a difference? I think there is some 180 day or something like this rule for taxation. Also other tax advice or link to advice would be very helpful, I have not found much. What I think right now from reading a bit online is that selling everything and then buy again in UK is probably the easiest way to handle this but of course transaction costs would be high. Actually Germany bank fees for deposits are relatively low as fare as I know so an alternative might also be to keep the thing and then start paying taxes on it in the UK, not totally sure how much annoying form filling this involves every year. Annyone out here doing something like this?
Das Wichtigste ist aber schon mal erledigt:
Die Selbstbestätigung als egoistischer Kleinbürger, der Steuern vermeiden will.
