ich vergesse immer wieder dass auch Profs Beamte sind und diese Zone nicht ausleuchten... unwichtig solange man selbst Vergünstigungen bekommt die anderen nicht zustehen

I thought in Germany that most economists would prefer a regular W3 over running a group at one of the institutes. How is the teaching reduction compared to the extra admin work?
Why is advertising a W2 a good strategy? Or do they need to wait for some W3s to retire from Goethe first?
Perhaps they understand that the W2 person they hire, in 5 years, would be much better than a counterpart W3 person that they can hire now.

Why you can't hire the in 5 years good guy with W3? Do you think with the admin and other stuff around this job you can focus on research?
I agree - its actually quite the contrary. There are always good Germans abroad who may consider coming back for a W3 (if given a significant market supplement over the, for finance, pathetic W3 base salary). Younger and ambitious people will probably not return to Germany for an admin-loaded position without getting tenure and full proessor status directly.

Sometimes people settle down, have family, are tired of moving for the umpteenth time. And even if you are perfectly mobile, the W3 Ruf may just not come.

Why W3 would be better in the first stage. They should have swaped some full profs to SAFE and and the w2 to Uni!

Sehr beruhigend, dass sich einige seriöse und sehr gute deutsche Forscher und -innen in den zentralen Organen und Einrichtungen der Politikberatung engagieren. VWLer wurden ja zuletzt nicht verwöhnt. In den Talkshows sind wir inhaltlich oft schwach vertreten, Institute wie insb. das DIW überleben nur noch wegen des politischen Kalküls, und der Aufschwung von Twitter bringt das Schlechte im Menschen hervor.

Fratzscher wird politisch geschützt und nicht das DIW. Ganz gegensätzlich, man lässt das DIW zugrundegehen. Es braucht dringend einen seriösen Präsidenten.
