The most recent AEA P&P is a giant arrow pointing to our future, where truth is not allowed and "equity" determines what gets published.
What are some actions that I, as an economist in the trenches, can do to stop this?
Drop your AEA membership. The journals are available through your library.
Don’t referee for their journals, or any others you can’t reasonably expect to publish in.
Don’t attend conferences unless you are on the market or on the program.
Professional societies are built on the dues and toil of people who receive zero benefit from participating.
It’s not just politics. It’s that cost > benefit across most dimensions for most people.
It’s already lost. People stuck their heads in sand ten years ago and now we are where we are.
Yep. DEI is here until it burns itself out. That could be decades, it could be more than a century.
Academics who are retiring now should have resisted the takeover when they had a chance. Nithing can be done about it today short of establishing a parallel system of non-woke of universities, journals and professional societies.
Oh well.

I admire your attempt to be constructive but these are token gestures at best. For every academic who refuses to participate, there are 10 grad students or APs who'll gladly join in.
It's over.
I think that ultimately the problem is that an entire social class has undergone something like a religious conversion. At this point it's like trying to stop the Roman Empire from converting to Christianity.
That "social class" is an entire generation of Americans. There has been a slow-motion cultural revolution through the schools and universities for years. Now we see the outcomes.
If you can't beat them, join them - divert your research to cute papers on the economics of carousel riding.
Don't forget that at least 50% of your sources need to be women.
Before you laugh, professors in political science are being pressured into doing this and papers are getting rejected for male-biased citations.
Life will be interesting at universities if the Supreme Court outlaws AA in its next term. Even Roberts have previously suggested skepticism about the Constitutionality of AA.
Universities are fetid bogs. They'll hire some shyster lawyers for advice and find new ways around any AA prohibitions.
It's easy to get around employment law if you know how to play the legal game.
There was a slow motion capture by a certain class, but that certain class underwent a religious conversion over the last 5 years. The exact same people are much more radical now than they were 5 years ago. The moderates are now crazy, and the crazies are now crazier.
