I am a financial services industry executive in the mid-west & joined the finance PhD program out of love for learning. However, I have learnt in the last 2 years that this track is not for me for three reasons:
a) it is going to take another 4 years or so for me to graduate and I can not wait that long without salary
b) it is highly academic in orientation, I don't want an academic job
c) it is very theoretical and less practical, so find it unattractive and tough
Now I have found a European PhD program that let's me complete my PhD program with certainty, it is less intense and more practical. However, it is not as widely known as my current school, it is in 200 rank. Considering that I don't want an academic placement, should I go for it? If I tell people that I have a PhD from a 200 type place, will they ridicule me or no one cares?
