the degree of obsession over internal race relationships in the US, something he is clearly not an expert on, strikes me as fascinating and I wonder why he pours so much of his free time obsessively into this subject, that's clearly not his matter of expertise constantly.
Blogs and twitter are appropriate places to share personal political views, and it's natural that a US resident should be interested in these things. If these views had fallen in line with the mob's consensus there would be no problem.

The AER is plenty corrupt as well.
And the presence of AEA insiders themselves fomenting the mob suggests a hidden angle to this conflict.
Honestly apart from his undetermined coefficents toolkit don't know which of his papers have had any lasting impact on macro. But I'm a MRM grad student so have no idea the blackbox of how editors chosen
If you don't know what HU has done, the problem is you, not him. Fortunately, your career arc looks destined for low-grade industry job.

Our disagreements are not about free speech. You have the right to say what you will. Just as I'm free to to use your speech to inform my judgments as to your (un)suitability to act as an important gatekeeper for our profession.
And JW puts him back in place. Uhlig knows exactly what he is doing, there is no room for him as an editor.
^ I think that's the core of the issue. It has also been puzzling to me where Uhlig got his fame from. He used to be at a third-rate University in Germany (not even Mannheim) before getting the offer from Chicago. Why? No idea. Why he became then lead editor of the JPE? Another puzzle. I'm sure very few macroeconomists would be able to tell what his significant contributions have been, especially compared to the other macro colleagues at Chicago.
