Reading this thread, I start to understand why they are pushing Econspark so hard. I hope she doesn't read EJMR.

I am not going to speculate on the motives of people here. I don't know why she did not get a Princeton flyout, nor why some people posting here assume all women or minorities who succeed do so for political reasons.
But if you read Boustan's work, you will see that this is a big and important topic and that even she does not think she did all that could be done. ED uses tools Boustan did not and ED's work provides a better basis for considering the many other situations similar to the Great Migration. The US is not the only place where a minority group has moved to another region and not done well.
So maybe you could calm down and stop blaming other people for your disappointments in life.

Your problem is the man in the mirror

I mean what did you expect? This is EJMR, proudly representing "the alt-right of economics" - a bunch of frustrated sad f**ks insulting whoever does better than them in life and/or academia (which is practically everyone), the more so the more the person looks different from them.

Hi ED

Isn't the vitriol against ED here evidence that the deck is stacked against black women in this field?? I imagine that if she saw this, it'd be infuriating for her to see an entire thread of people claiming that her success is only because she is a "diversity hire," or that departments are hiring a black woman to try to seem woke or whatever.
Moreover, how many f**king QJE papers are there on optimal taxation, or the returns to schooling, or labor supply elasticities? Not seeing a lot of posts on these forums about how we've learned everything is to know in those fields. One well-known prof (Boustan) writes some good papers on a major historical event and we say that study of the Great Migration is done, with no room for new contributions?
ED does great work, is whip-smart, has a phenomenal JMP, and I hope she takes the offer she will inevitably get at my institution.

Isaiah Andrews is black. No one said he got favorable treatment because he never needs it. Same with Renee Bowen and Glenn Loury etc
IA is extraordinary by any measure, and leagues above even the typical best studet at top school. Is that your standard for being above suspicion and accusations of being unqualified?
