I'm considering the phd program there in Econ. Anyone has some thoughts?
How bad is Stanford GSB?

If you are doing theory or a theory based applied field like theoretical IO, it could be one of the best. If you are not sure abouut your field, you can consider your other options if you have MIT / Harvard. Otherwiser, you can also consider UC Berkeley (Public), Econometrics (Yale) or Chicago (Macro) depending on your interest.

Stanford GSB has produced many of the stars in theory of the recent few decades (a few names: Jackson, Athey, Yildiz, Sannikov, Golub, Dworczak) though in the last decade Stanford Econ has been at least as good theory factory.
So for theory it makes sense to consider it along side MIT and Stanford Econ in the top group. For other fields it is not at the same level but in fields where it has faculty it is solid top 10 level.
