I don't believe some of the numbers being thrown around here. Working 90 hours a week would almost certainly burn you out, and leave you with no energy left for any kind of creative thinking. How are you supposed to write a paper under those conditions?
Personally a good week for me was one where I could do 35-40 focused hours. That rarely happened, and I ended up averaging maybe around 30 hours on most weeks.
For the people working 90 hours a week, I am 100% sure they are including the time spent browsing the internet, checking social media, or mindlessly staring at a paper. Working like that is incredibly draining and frustrating. If you can instead work fewer hours a week, but concentrate more during that time (easier said than done, alas), then your productivity and overall quality of life will be much better.I did 90 hours a week and maybe 5-10 were useless hours (such as browsing EJMR or checking Facebook). The rest were legitimate studying. Some hours were more productive than others, of course
