   Most departments count refereeing as professional service. Not equivalent to a pub, but service is one of those areas one needs to have to get pay increases and promotions, although very marginal.

   At my institution referee report carries the same weight as a journal publication. For example, 1 referee report and 5 journal articles counts as 6 publications.

   How many have you refereed for non-refereed journals? You will want to include those in your calculus, discounted appropriately.

   As evidence of my research competence, I have refereed many papers for very good refereed journals. I feel that it is about time to reap the rewards of my labour in terms of the publication equivalent.What is a suitable formula for converting the number of reports written to journal publication equivalent?

   You should list the journals that you have refereed for on your CV. As a CV item it has less worth that getting well-known with editors.

    Depends on whether or not you have prior publications. The simple formula is (the number of referee reports times zero) plus the number of publications. If the result is negative enter zero.
