How My Naïve Perception of the Economics Profession Eventually Changed
-
lol. I had the same experience up to "day-to-day ... sucks". If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would still come in to work. I love my job. What parts of your job do you hate? You don't enjoy research?Eurotard here, before college I had no idea of what econ was like, and before grad school I had no idea of what econ research was like. I found out that the day-to-day work of an academic economist really SUCKS.

Give the kid some credit...at least he's not just another naive kid falling for whatever his professor says. And Ron Paul's economic views have been vindicated pretty strongly these past few years...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good one, ace!

I can't complain about running 1m regressions, but the amount of time spent on data cleaning really blew my mind

All I ever seem to get in response from economists when talking about Ron Paul are eye-rolls. Can someone please explain why they think he is a kook? As he himself says, people resorts to name-calling when they don't want to debate someone intellectually.
*rolls eyes*

Plain and simple, economists don't respect Austrians (of which Paul is one) due to their gaping methodological flaws and rejection of utilizing any sort of mathematical formalism.
Also, he has a pretty bad habit of saying things that either misrepresent the data at hand or simply show a lack of knowledge.
That's the issue, writ large.
