LOL. It's always funny to read these discussions. It's like the top 0.1% debating who is better.
How prestigious is Columbia University really?
-
Huge mistake. You will continue to mention for the rest of your life that you were actaully admitted to other places besides Columbia. This is the issue here. Poeple who actually chose Boston do not mention anything.
Columbia alum here.
I wanted to be in NYC for 4 years and Boston sucks. Harvard people seemed annoying. The stuffiness of the whole thing was off putting. Columbia felt much more like living in the real world. That's why I chose Columbia too. Admitted at Harvard as well. I already live in NYC so it was an obvious choice. I don't see how I could have more opportunities than I have today just by going to Harvard. I've been accepted at almost all of the companies I applied.

I assume you went to Harvard?

Nearly. However, you should realize that Harvard people would never argue with you. They are not as insecure. If they hear that you are from Columbia then they will simply say 'good for you.' No need to explain anything if you are from Harvard. No need to argue with anyone. Just think about it. Being from Harvard and informing someone that Harvard is 'better' than ... would be just too pathetic. They know it and they do not take positions on our site or in real life.
Sorry, but choosing Columbia over Harvard is a mistake. Still, I am sure that there are many people truly happy with Columbia and with their lives in general. You can be even happy at University of Arizona.

I think that I have hit the right tone. You are attacking me personally and not addressing the point. I can be both immature and insecure. However, my point stands. No one from Harvard would ever feel compelled to explain why chosing Harvard was better form them than choosing Columbia. Sorry guys.

For someone on an economics forum, you sure use the word "no one" rather liberally. So not only are you insecure, you're an idiot too. Fascinating.

What's your IQ? 50? You \neq all of Harvard. If you want to take a position at least make sure it's not falsifiable but "at least one."

The question isn’t whether Columbia opens the same doors...Cornell or Duke does too. Primary difference in quality of students
Quality of the students? Carnegie Mellon had 16 students place in the top 193 at Putnam last year. Princeton had 14, Harvard had 12. Stanford had 6, Yale 3.
Too schools:
1. Harvard
2. MIT
3. UCLA
4. Columbia
5. Stanford
