And humanities academics and students who genuinely hate their own societies want the death of those societies.

Would you rather spend your life as an unmarried weirdo? By your 30s all your friends are going to get married and have kids and not have time to be your friend so best to just join the club IMO. If you get divorced in your 40s or 50s who cares. By then most of your life is over anyway.

This is something I don't understand. Why do they hate Western Civilization?
Someone can say "I appreciate the wisdom of the traditional Hindu/Chinese/Japanese/Islamic Civilization" (and there is plenty of wisdom in those civilizations, indeed), but if someone says the same about traditional Western Civilization, that person gets branded a "national socialist".
The 7 heavenly virtues became vices and the 7 deadly sins became virtues.

This is muddled thinking. Economists are purely at fault for all of these problems. By introducing rationalism in to every facet of life, economists have encouraged the destruction of culture. Ironically, they have destroyed themselves in the process.

It really started in the mass bloodletting of WW1, not WW2. The killing fields of WW1 freed a hatred for society, acceptance of totalitarian systems and desire to destroy normality.
History never really had the sort of totalitarian political systems that grew up in the wake of WW1. There was lots of murder, of course, but it had not been motivated in the same way to destroy society.

Economists are very much at fault by turning everything into an economic calculation. But that is why I included "capital" in the group. Marx was right, to some extent, in that capital wants to reduce labor to interchangeable inputs. He could never have guessed, however, that they would evolve in this direction.
You can see this sort of thinking on EJMR everywhere: oh just import more of x profession from y country, and all your problems are solved. No thought is given to second or third order consequences. They can't even figure out why their own PhD market is such a joke.

Absolutely they are. 40 years ago their ideas were completely objectionable to the rest of academia and society, and ridiculed. 20 years ago, they were completely acceptable in academia, but rejected by society. 5 years ago, they were completely dominant in society, if we observe culture. Today, they are being put into practice at every level of society.
Imagine where we will be in 10 years.

Absolutely, although it started much earlier than that. It actually started with the realization that the West was indeed "better" than the rest of the world. This realization led to the "conclusion" that we must hold ourselves to a "higher standard" than the rest of the world. The flaw was in the application of this "higher standard". Savage societies should not be criticized or judged by us, because we have "different standards".

I'm pretty sure it has happened before. Simply history has either forgotten, or has interpreted events differently.
Take ancient Rome, the destruction of the Republic and the rise of the Caesars. All of that had to do with imports of slaves to replace high-cost and high-political power plebs.
