b2bf, China will not invade Russia for the sole reason that Russia is its only worthwhile ally for now, and that the West views Russia as a more important worry than China. If it takes Russia out, America will be laughing all the way to its own military bases and this gives it a bigger reason to force UN and all international organizations to boycott China the way it did to Iran.

LOL, China and Russia aren't allies. What on earth are you smoking? Right now its convenient to pretend that they are aligned but it is a given that the current Chinese governmental organization will inevitably lead China to invade Russia. Plus Russia's nukes will do nothing to deter China simply because China can levy the same threat and Chinese internal propaganda will spin that as a "Russia is evil country and we need to defend ourselves from them" story and use that to gain internal support for that war.
China will invade Russia. It will happen. Within the next decade you will see the genesis of the plot and see China pick the land they want to first invade. Once China clears out the whole Taiwan issue and maybe even takes Vietnam and some other small neighbor you will see chinese troops amass on Russia's border within 2 years and then the invasion is inevitable. Russia is too politically weak to defend itself from China.

1. there is no benefit of going after the US first. With Russia they expand their land and more importantly they have an excuse. You see its very easy to claim that a neighboring land should belong to your country for religious/historical/moral reasons and your population would support that initiative and your military leaders would keep on voting in the party meetings to keep you in power. If you start with the US it just looks like unnecessary war mongering and while some elites might support it you'll see the other ones and the population stop supporting you and you lose political support and might lose your job.

2. the US would never defend Russia after all the stuff Russia has been doing in this decade.

3. Russia would never let US military boots enter Russia or let US jets fly over Russia so all China needs to do is pick a territory far enough inland. Also the US would not attack other parts of China because then that is no longer a Russian defense mission.

But at least 4200 is willing to accept that China will continue its peaceful expansion of its territory using military power (to stay on the military elites good side to keep their government jobs) after they take Taiwan, which even the UN says doesn't belong to China and has been saying that since WW2 ended. The only disagreement is on where they will next peacefully expand to and the reality is that Russia is a very soft and easy target for China.
