If your dissertation begins with "Essays in ..."
-
One of my committee members told me to use "Essays in X", but our dept had already graduated 2 students who had called their dissertations "Essays in X", not to mention the hundreds of students at other universities over the past 20 years who called their dissertations "Essays in X".
I chose "Selected Topics on x" where x is a very specific sub field of X. It was a stretch to clasify all of my chapters into x, but it could be done.

OP has no idea how things are done. Almost all the time, one essay is your JMP and the other two essays are just fillers or potential papers. When you go on the job market nobody gives a s**t what your dissertation is, they're only going to listen to you present your JMP. It's a formality, that's all.
