Contacted by some economists inside, asking me about my papers and skills. Interestingly, contacted by two different people asking for the same thing. Does anyone especially insiders know which stage my application is on? Didn't expect to hear from them this early.

My understanding is that HR does an initial screening and then sends a candidate list to the departments. At some point they will have to submit a selection, but until then they might or might not approach candidates directly and ask for skills, etc. So having been contacted by economists means that you at least passed the initial screening.

Thanks, may I know the possibility to get the offer at this stage? I mean conditional on I am already shortlisted. And when the offer will be made?

Contacted by an Economist too and that means being shortlisted. Would appreciate the updates if anyone gets into the next step!

To those who heard from economists congrats! Could you please share if they asked you about your research, did you get invited for an interview and if you are from US, Europe or else? Thanks in advance!
I had an interview with an economist and was mainly asked about my research and technical skills. I think they mostly wanna find out if your skills are relevant for the research projects they have in mind for the summer. I'm from the EU.

Was contacted by two different economists actually. One of the two asked me to talk via video. He didn't say it's an "interview", but just want to talk about his research idea and wanted to know more about me. Most of time I just introduced a few programs I have been working or worked on. And the end he asked me about what software I am using. The other economist didn't ask for talk, just asked me by email what software I am using and am I comfortable with some software and models. Really curious what's the possibility to get in conditional on my current stage. Pretty want to go.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights! You must be crème de la crème applicants and hence were contacted first. I guess all of us who applied are anxiously googling 'IMF Internship 2023' 24/7 so at least some of other people who got offers would speak by now. I think they select 40 interns so my personal impression is you are most likely getting it.

Just receive this today:
"This is to let you know that the candidate review process with the respective hiring divisions has concluded with your pre-selection to a research project. As part of the appointment process, we will reach out to you in a few weeks-time with the formal appointment offers which will include the project description and other information related to the assignment."
I guess I got it?

Wondering is there anybody who interviewed with the economists but hasn't received the pre-selection email today? Does that mean our hiring process is over?
