   Just receive this today:
   "This is to let you know that the candidate review process with the respective hiring divisions has concluded with your pre-selection to a research project. As part of the appointment process, we will reach out to you in a few weeks-time with the formal appointment offers which will include the project description and other information related to the assignment."
   I guess I got it?

   Hi! I received a similar email does that mean that we've been selected for sure?

   Can they back out from this offer ? I have to reject another offer for this.

   Even I have to reject another offer. Can someone here let us know if it's a confirmed offer or not?

   They'll mention that when they'll send us the offer letters. I haven't been informed about my project or supervisor either.

    Thanks! So they don't inform those who aren't selected neither via email? Do you know at what point it's 100% certain one is not selected? I have some other offers, though this one would be my preferred.

    I think when formal offers are made, the chance to still get the offer is very minimal.

    So the final question is whether the pre-selection email is certain or not or whether it means a shortlisted candidate. It is strange that many team picked candidate without interviewing them.

    I am not an insider, but this is what I believe: the pre-selection email is certain, they just tell you you are selected first because the formal offer need to contain information about your project and salary and IMF is a very large institution so it takes some time to finalize everything. I believe this because the economist who interviewed me emailed me after I got the pre-selection email, telling me the project he proposed is accepted and he will be glad to work together on the project.

    No worry if you didn't hear anything from the fund if you just got the pre-selection email. Whether to talk to you in advance before the final offer is made really depends on the individual economists there. I knew many people before was contacted by economists after receiving the formal offer.
