Like someone said .. it is not performance base in the end. Your University, your referees, and so on ... Hopefully they will send a rejection email so we can at least get the opportunity to ask what went wrong ! I am hopeful to get a feedback on that ...

There is clear evidence that selection is not based on ranking. I knew two - both from small countries who failed the panel (that is what they told me - they could not answer one or two panel questions), but still got offers last year.

There is no level playing field anywhere in international organizations (IOs) such as the IMF. But don't feel discouraged if you feel you did everything right to get in but you did not. Keep trying elsewhere until you eventually find a position that'd provide you with immense happiness. I also feel I did everything possible I could but was rejected in the end too. My panel interview lasted over 1 hour, with the panel expressing deep interest in my answers and asking tons of follow questions. Some of the questions they asked weren't hypothetical to me because I consulted for other IOs (during my PhD) where we dealt with same issues they asked about during the panel. I answered the questions using my personal experiences with IOs and governments (and of course based on theory and empirics too). The panel made me feel I answered them so well, but in the end, I didn't make the final selection. The EP selection process is not perfect, and the selection criteria is not based on merit alone. So don't fault yourself if you didn't make it. Just apply elsewhere.
Well I was an intern before, I was extremely happy after the panel interview but still no offer. Maybe they consider only HRM candidates?

Dear colleagues, I generally do not lose hope until I have hard and undisputed evidence to do so. I know the odds are almost zero at this stage, but I am still confidently waiting for the first round of interviews. I am a graduate of an average African University with a strong passion for international economics, and I know I can contest confidently with graduates from Ivy League Universities. As long as the IMF hasn't sent the dreaded rejection letter, I will meet with the rest of the cohort in Washington in September.
