I am interested in IO work and would like to end up in a business school/marketing department. I have HRM marketing and HRM econ offers; am I better off taking the marketing offer?

Post Seems like doing a PhD in marketing is a better option. One thing I was thinking of is to simply load up on econ classes, if you're concerned about the "advantages" IO folks have. One of my main concern is that would one not being able to fit in well in business school phd marketing programs with little to no work experience? And would no work experience put one in research disadvantage for marketing problems? I see most phd marketing students got some corporate experience and this puts them give a better feel of how to do research in business/marketing problems? And personally, I surmise that doing business/marketing research without work experience is like trying to understand business from the ivory tower and you may not know what you are talking about. It's just like doing phd in management without any work experience. Correct me if i am wrong. I know Econ phd is more aspie and more mathurbation, and so no work exp is perfectly fine, and actually for Econ, the more math the better. I am posting all these because I am interested to do IO and thinking whether phd marketing would be better than doing IO in phd Econ.
