   I refuse to do the pronoun thing in introductions (I just skip it) because (1) I am unambiguously aligned with my birth gender and (2) it’s entirely political signaling.

   1) I did not use the word "disorder". That is just your own stigma talking. APA does not actually classify gender dysphoria as a disorder.

   2) The way we diagnose gender dysphoria is not that different from the way we diagnose e.g. depression or anxiety or PTSD. It is through conversation between a psychiatrist and a patient, where the patient talks about their own personal experiences (which are often invisible for outsiders). Why are people so hesitant to believe people when they talk about their gender dysphoria but readily accept when people talk about their depression or their PTSD? It literally is just pretty much "this is how I feel, here are my symptoms" and then the psych is like, "Yeah, that's very similar to these other thousands of people who reported those exact same symptoms." Why, when people talk about their PTSD symptoms, are people supportive, but when people talk about their gender dysphoria, is that suddenly something you just can't wrap your head around?

   I agree with this. I am troubled by pronoun stuff for multiple reasons.

   And as someone who agrees with a lot of the milder versions of "toxic masculinity" critiques, I feel weird going around effectively saying "I AM A MAN" to everyone I meet. I am male, and in no way do I "identify" as anything else. But in ordinary professional settings, that isn't always front of mind, which seems like a good thing.

   Also, for people who are legitimately working through some gender identity issues, it can be really cruel. It forces them to announce a very complicated thing they are trying to work out to the world.

There are literally zero people who use she and his, so listing pronoun(s) instead of pronoun is by definition political signaling. The vast majority of people putting these pronouns down have a completely unambiguous gender identity. The change in posterior belief about your political persuasion is *much* stronger than the (generally null) change in posterior belief about preferred gender identity. That is the objection: pronouns are not about making life easier for trans people, but sliding a political stance into one's communications in a way that is objectively terribly confusing for anyone who isn't part of the 5% of the developed world who has even heard of "your pronouns".
