more layoffs increase my happiness
Is it just me or do you guys also enjoy the whole layoffs thingie?

This is actually not true. The severance packages this time are mostly quite st1ngy (only two to three months severance pay).
Many of them will get much compensated for being laid off and find a job with high pay very soon. However, you are just stuck with your low pay forever.

This is the soul of economists these days. It does not matter if I do interesting meaningful work and I am happy. It only matters that everyone else is miserable.
OP is not an economist. OP is a snake:

While theoretically yes, but I know many people are very happy about being laid off… just no need to assume all of them suffer

I do not enjoy people losing their jobs. I hear that they are easily able to find new jobs, just not at the bloated salaries that BigTech was offering (with none of the perks). This is the best scenario. Big cities will become more affordable and engineers won't be unemployed for too long - they will find good jobs at a good enough pay.
