Not really. Most economists don't care about what people in other fields think. I am not saying it is ideal but this is the case.
Why do you want the letter writer to talk about your grades? The PhD admission committee can already see your grades on your transcript. You want the letter writers to talk about your research experience.
I have letter writers to talk about my research experience, but I was thinking adding a math prof as the third reference is not a bad idea?

If you think that you need to influence a letter writer then remember that probably the writer should not be doing the writing. Suggesting anything about the content is inappropriate: both rude and unprofessional.
It is sad that such things have to be explained to individuals operating in a global market.

I think it’s totally fine to give a short list of things that you’re concerned about. So you want to frame it as “it’s your letter, of course write what you want, but I’m worried about X and Y so If you’re willing to address them that might help me.” No one will get mad about that, and some people appreciate the guidance on important things to address.
Faculty here. This does sound a little like an undergrad response but it isn't a million miles off. I don't mind at all if a student mentions there are specific things to mention. If it's phrased as a demand, then sure I am bothered, because I may not say the things I am asked to say. But if I conclude I would be telling the truth when writing them, I will write it.

It's not BS. Economics faculty members are much better placed to evaluate whether a student will do well in an Economics graduate programs. I would be very hesitant to ask a non-econ prof, unless there were special circumstances like you did a lot of relevant RA work for them or they have an economics PhD. Explaining a dodgy grade doesn't rise to that level in my mind.
I remember also having a webinar on the topic of digital content and how best to distribute it. There are different ways. But that webinar was of very little use to me personally. I will say for myself that there is actually a better solution.
