USC:90, UCLA:0
That was true of Trojans this year.
Our LRM school is full of rumors that UCLA flamed out in the job market for a 3rd year in a row? What is going on insiders?
I don't know much about hiring. But as long as I know, they accepted 9 incoming PhD students (out of 18 admission offers) last year. That is ridiculous! It signals that they don't care about quality of the program. Or do they just hope at least one out of the nine will make a big shot after 5 years?
Senior guys at UCLA are more active and smarter than most places by far. If you ever give a seminar there, you'll know what I mean.
BUT, the point about tenuring BC is completely true. Let's see what happens with GT who should def get tenure whenever he goes up. I think their tastes lead them to like hi-profile people who are hit and miss, but def smart (e.g., Ivo).
I think their PhD program, like many, alternates as diff people run it.

Whatever the reason, that's just ridiculous! And what other schools ever admitted 9 PhD students?

This thread is talking about their failure in the "job market" anyway. Your point about their senior guys is out of topic whether it's true or not.
