AG. Told me my employment will start late Jan/early Feb.
Similar for me, I dont get the sense there will be another delay.
The law firm side, mine at least, is still extremely busy. Litigation hours are up 10% yoy, and profits for the year are expected to beat last year. I'm so busy that I'm ready to quit (as a partner...) and I'm calculating how long my savings will last.
Were cases slowed down because of court closures?

I am in a similar situation. Not quite ready to quit yet (because I really enjoy the work) but the past few months were brutal in terms of workload, but also my best stretch professionally. Hoping to catch a bit of a breather for the rest of the year.

Things slowed a bit -- certainly no civil trials -- but discovery is the majority of work anyway and that continues.

I had a breather in the summer (only billed 200 hrs/month...) but things in the last week went off the rails. No hope for me until at least next year.
To me it seems like the huge jury verdicts over the last few years have made plaintiffs very ambitious and made clients willing to pay our ridiculous rates. I'd love if we raised rates 5% and got 10% less business (not sure what the actual demand elasticity is).
So have you been unemployed since May?
Have you been looking for other jobs? I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people don’t show up in January after being strung along for like 9 months.AG. Told me my employment will start late Jan/early Feb.
It is completely disgraceful what these companies have done. I hope their hires did not wait around for them.
These companies honored all of their job offers and had zero layoffs when hundreds of other firms were firing employees. What these firms has done is honorable.

This is spot on. My offer was delayed until 2021 but the firm handled it very well. Its not ideal but the pandemic was a massive unexpected shock.

100%. I know a few consultants who got laid off earlier this year and are still searching for jobs. This year we will probably hire these experienced folks over the AEA hires and be done with it.
Updates on my front. One of AG/Cornerstone has announced all new hires will start remote as of 2021. A bit maddening considering they could have been doing this the whole time. This also means additional hiring for the upcoming year will be close to nonexistent.

The reason they delayed the start date was that they weren't sure there would be enough work for the new hires, not that the new hires would be working remotely...
