Lol. Okay, fearmonger.
This is a reason I’m done visiting this forum. Uninformative and replete with issues.
Hearing of millions of layoffs in the sector
Our large firm is doing well; No concerns about the economy for litigation consulting. We're even considering hiring experienced candidates in a certain groups.
However, staff turnover is lower. There could be an exodus when the economy improves. If not, hiring will be slower this year. If there is some catch up in turnover then I don't expect this hiring cycle to much to be different than previous years.
One bottleneck that might do it is courts. It’s difficult or impossible to schedule a hearing or trial because of the risk. Therefore, due dates on projects and reports are getting pushed back until they can figure out how to get judges, juries, lawyers, and witnesses in the same room safely. If their experiments are successful, business could ramp up in the fall preventing any catastrophe, otherwise, it could be rough. It’s cliche to say, but try to focus on your work or research in your added free time. It’s still beneficial, and if you have a delayed offer the money is really good, so financially you will be set in the long run.
I know courts are trying things in July. Having witnesses in the jury box, juries in the public seating. No or few members of the public allowed in. Staggering people through the elevators 1 at a time. If no one gets sick in July and August from things like that, maybe the courts can step on the gas. There are other moving parts too that need to adjust. I don't have a real sense of when those will be resolved. How this all gets put together is sort of organic, so I don't think I can extract a timeline out of it.
