Mit flyouts are still not out, what's going on?
Is mit skipping flyouts?

This is a new norm I guess. Many top candidates recently don't have a solo JMP.
MIT flyout list is out. Tbh this sounds like the continuing downfall of MIT. With one or two exceptions, the people invited have not a single drop of originality (and it is unlikely how much of it isn't just their advisors). Alas, sad

That’s because the market stopped punishing it so severely. Just how we will soon see it go from 6 years to 7 years as the norm for a PhD. We must start maintaining standards

you guys are d/vmb, you really think PhD students write a JMP on their own? That's not a thing and it's not supposed to be a thing, the training and the essential feedback from top researchers in the field is the reason why people pursue a PhD degree. Maybe the market just stopped pretending that solo JMPs are really solo.

Omg. I laughed, really.

Well, research is about having ideas and carrying them out.
Coauthoring is fine. But honestly papers co-authored with seniors count almost nothing. Much more when with multiple seniors.
It shows lack of creativity when most of your research is co-authored with seniors.
This clearly doesn't apply to most of the people invited by top departments.Omg. I laughed, really.
