Is Paris the most dangerous large city in Western Europe?
-
I have never felt unsafe in Paris, ever. And by "Paris," I mean the actual City of Paris (its 20 arrondissements).
I'm sure some of the suburbs are very unpleasant, but I have never had any reason to visit them.Probably never went to Paris then. Ever visited Gare du Nord ? Gare de Lyon ? Any subway station whatsoever? Even saint-germain isn't that great anymore

City of London is tiny. An accurate comparison would be Paris with Central London (zones 1 and 2).

Oh, what an anecdote-loaded blog post by a negotiation trainer!
Paris is fine. It's a big city, there is crime. But I bet people writing that kind of stuff have never been out for a night walk in Sofia or Bucharest.Sofia is a very safe city.
And I bet Bucharest is too.
Eastern Europe in general is safe.
Only dangerous thing is getting into a bar fight If you insult someone. But street crime is nonexistent.
I certainly never felt unsafe.
London on the other hand....

London is not that safe.
I mention Sofia and Bucharest because I have been in trouble in both. And definitely not by getting in a bar fight, just by looking like the kind of tourist one can make money from.

Yes, every time I have visited Paris I have arrived at Gare du Nord. Yes, it has some homeless people hanging around it, and the area is kind of run down. That doesn't make me feel unsafe (and I can't imagine why it would make anyone who has any experience in major urban areas feel unsafe).

If hanging around professional thiefs does not make you feel unsafe, then Paris is a very safe city indeed
But that's not how people usually define 'safe' -

Had dinner in a posh restaurant in Hyde park.
On the way home I had to go through the park.
Basically filled with Arab youths smoking weed and probably selling worse stuff too.

But that's not how people usually define 'safe'Sure, someone who has never been to a big city before will be a sitting duck. But anyone who uses common sense will not get anything stolen. In any case, I don't think of petty thieves who will do not any bodily harm as a threat to my safety.
Maybe it's just me, but I have lived in major American cities (like NYC), and in comparison, cities like Paris and London are extremely safe.

Basically filled with Arab youths smoking weed and probably selling worse stuff too. They were probably Pakistani, not Arab. Anyway, you find young brown men smoking weed to be scary? Are you an 80 year old wht woman from North Dakota?
