From my point of view : Toulouse = bad city to live in for 5 more years
So I start to prospect... (Bocconi, Aarhus, Tinbergen, Roma, BGSE) but since people at TSE usually stay for their PhD I don't have insight on the reality of the admission in such program.
Interested in financial econometris but more broadly in quantitative finance
Why even leave if you're already at TSE? Can't do much better
Main reason : the city, I see that people like a lot Toulouse here... but that's not my case, I am not used to this kind of small town with a high population density and I did not manage to feel at home in this city during this year. Not to mention the summer there, a furnace!
Now, given the fact that I have never planned to stay in Toulouse since my fourth month in the city, I am not even sure to get a proposition for a PhD because I will not do the M2 ETE. On the other hand, I had the chance to do my M1 thesis with a talented professor in the field that interests me. But I did not take the time to sympathize a lot with him even if he gave me good grade.
My advice (for Europe) is to do you master’s where you intent to do your PhD. In most places the MA is basically used to screen students and in practice internal candidates who did well are hugely advantaged relative to external candidates for PhD/TA positions.
Well thank you your comment is in line with what I was gessing in the website of several schools : you need to retake a master… while this is not a problem for me in terms of time, it is a big problem in terms of funding since it seems that the funding is restricted for MA students. Since I’m french, it was not a problem at TSE

Aarhus seems to have a very high requirement about the GPA (9.5/10) which is almost impossible to get in France, especially at TSE. So you may want to delete this university from your list ?

Hi. I have been a professor there. I hope not to be too harsh: if you are the type of student who cares so much about city life, you may not be the type of students that good PhD programs want. But if I am wrong here, and you do have the grades, the test scores and the high opinion of your advisor, TSE faculty can take you wherever you want. Ask. No one will be offended if you say you want to try something outside France. Now, my opinion here, it only makes sense to move unconditionally to top department in US + LSE. For the rest, yes, moving still is a smart choice if there a group you like a lot (EF CREI). Good luck!
lol at the irate TSE bros in this thread, OP, for most of the places, if you want to skip the coursework you should contact a supervisor directly at one of these institutions. If you contact the schools themselves (e.g., BSGE or Tinbergen), they will tell you to do the 2-year coursework first.
