I think originally affirmative action was just supposed to benefit people whose ancestors were enslaved. But today it benefits African immigrants for no reason whatsoever, except that they share skin color with descendants of slaves.
So it's not affirmative action anymore. Let's call it "representation" or "diversity". In that case, if the idea is not just to help people who have been victimized, like African-Americans or native Americans, you need to completely break down the demographic to race, religion, nationality, sex and so on to have something that is reflective of the population. Of course it's almost impossible because you can only go so far with cutting people into groups.
