A former student of mine failed to replicate two of Kung's economic history papers. In both cases, Kung did not publicize his data, so my student collected it from scratch, and got opposite and insignificant results...

There were lots of reasons HKUST didn't hold onto JK, but accusations of data manipulation was not one of them. HKUST is overrun with quislings.
This scandal was widely known before Kung moved to HKU. Good riddance for HKUST.
