new office is so-so. james spader is good, but not THAT good.

I agree, but James Spader has not been brought in to play the same role Carrel did. Spader is not the center of attention in most episodes as Carrel was. If anything he is an entertaining addition that allows the rest of the cast to keep going about their business without everyone being all "OMG STEVE CARREL ISNT THER DERRRR"
