In the real world, we know there are a lot of frictions that limit the efficacy of the courts for resolving issues related to rape and sexual assault, that NEVER HAPPENED.

Counterpoint, the bar for title IX after “dear colleague “was preponderance of evidence and there are plenty of cases of people getting railroaded under that standard in campus adjudications. If nothing could stick even under that very low standard, I’m not comfortable in saying there’s anything there
I tend to agree that multiple accusers across multiple places is bad. But it seems like it’s at least one case of an accuser following him across institutions.
Taken with the fact that it seems like one person is calling these in following him from place to place in at least one of the passages, it’s not even clear that there are more than two different people making these accusations- so the smoke—> fire argument doesn’t follow,Guys, who have no clue about how sexual assault allegations work. let me explain things to you. It is very hard to prove an allegation beyond a reasonable doubt, which is why very few people who actually commit violations get prosecuted in criminal courts. Us women don’t have the luxury of relying on court decisions to protect ourselves, given this fact. What often pushes things over the edge for us is when someone faces *multiple allegations* from *multiple accusers* in *different institutions*. In such a scenario, I would never ever take a risk of being alone with that person, and I wouldn’t let people I care about be alone with that person either. It’s as simple as that. If that feels unfair to you, that’s your opinion. But this is all about risk-adjusting your choices.
Life isn’t as simple as your two-period world with a representative agent.
For this reason, I am glad JD is making these allegations public. We deserve to know to protect ourselves. It’s not like any of you will protect us. -
I’d love to hear your ideas for improving the courts. And we should. But that also doesn’t mean we should ignore the frictions today and come up with second-best solutions for right now. I am not okay with us doing nothing and allowing this guy to continue raping and assaulting female graduate students while we work on a longer-term project of reforming the courts.
Naive point of view, you are living in a fantasy world. In the real world, we know there are a lot of frictions that limit the efficacy of the courts for resolving issues related to rape and sexual assault.
I don’t know if you guys know how to read… if you did, you would see the allegations there are horrendous and criminal. There are multiple different allegation which began from when he was an undergraduate and continue for years after that. I would not want to be in a room alone with him, and I wouldn’t let any of my female students be alone with him either. JD is right, and SC should never have defended him without knowing the full set of facts.
Honestly idc, go to the actual courts
Do you know how de lusional you sound? I could say the EXACT same thing about anything including AEA investigations, University investigations. Rather than finding solutions that can improve the efficacy of the courts for all, you take the path of some village public sh aming act, like that's justice. What a f arce

Our justice system is way to lenient to false accusers like yourself and Cray Jenny. This is the problem that need fixing, not the safety of the cray.

TLDR summary: Lynching is good, actually

You should just bring a machete with you to conferences so if you are attacked by a rogue economist, you can chop chop right there! Add it to your CV under service
Oh you’re right, it’s so “nazi” of me to not want to be raped or assaulted by a senior professional in my field.

They let me do it to phd students…

Posting someone’s name on twitter is not putting him in jail, lynching him, or chopping him up. No one is talking about violence here. Sorry if you guys don’t know the difference. That’s probably why you think the tweet is just as violent as rape.
If you don’t think making these accusations will have consequences, or weren’t intended to, the tweets are harmless. I don’t think you’re deluded enough to think that

Just trying to spitball solutions to the apparently ever-present danger around female economists. But you’re right, court reform would be easier

Ia panel of three womens studies professors where the accused can’t even talk to a lawyer and the burden of proof is as minimal as possible is clearly so slanted in the favor of a male economist there’s just no hope for anyone getting justice. Time to Try to end their career by flinging accusations around on Twitter!
