Defenders of the corruption and fraud in this thread: bb93 and a9ed
Which of the authors are you? Out yourself, you fraud. You won't be able to contain the damage. Nice try.
So one author is from HEC Paris, and the other are Duke faculty?
In light of other popular threads, this makes fraudulent behaviors across continents, school reputation, and author race/ethnicity.
All we need is perhaps a female or African American finance scholar who has similar situations.
But these are tenured professors, and should not have the pressure to publish in a hurry. Why did they do this?
Probably got away with similar before and got too greedy. A typical pattern of cheats and thieves. It becomes a way of life. It goes without saying that every one of their papers should be tested for replication and more. JF alone has published several other papers from these CRO OKS. They should immediately commission the replications.
The UK professor has finally published in a top journal!
Before this replication, no one on EJMR would have respected or listened to him. ALL would have labelled him UVLRM with ckrap publication record.
I am sure you have learnt a thing or two from this: That the best ideas can come from anywhere
I think we should start accepting null results at top Journals. Or increase the number of A-journals for tenure. How can a lemon like me with my uninteresting paper but correct Matlab code publish in top 4/5?
Just make up significant results. You might even get the Brattle prize or better.
If they call you out on it simply say you lost your code. That's a perfectly reasonable excuse. Who doesn't lose the code of their prize-winning papers? Right.
So, the two senior authors had so little to do with the paper that they never had the code or the data on their computer?
They signed their name to it. In every submission, all authors sign. They are responsible for the fraud and much as they got credit for the paper and the prize.

How much money was the prize?
