How much money was the prize?$10,000
Interesting
PhD student here in econ doing finance work. Having worked with a few APs, I have second thoughts about joining this profession...
It's all running thousands of regressions to find a result that explains the hypothesis.
And yet these AP themselves (or even wider audience) believe they are the "expert" in this field.
There is no truth in this world, my hoap shattered.

If you are in a top program, get the fancy degree and go to industry.

Which industry hires finance PhD?

I got my PhD from a top 5 program. I liked and then did not like the faculty there, after I learned the darks ide of the profession. But after I graduated and met more academic folks elsewhere, I realized that they all have a big ego and could be really nasty. The difference is that you still meet a lot of super smart and intellectual people at top programs.
If you have a computer science background, go for data scientist. If not, stick to your PhD and focus on some ngo, think tank, or federal agency job first. That would give you experience and connections, in case you are interested in a competitive industry offer. Without a fancy degree, it would be hard to land a decent wall street job right after school.

To start with, finance. Data science is another decent place nowadays. Some federal agencies could use your expertise too.
Shame on the senior authors for throwing the junior under the bus. It’s always this way. When in fact, the p hacking was probably encouraged by the seniors. Everyone knows that this is how it works when RAing.
But still many desperate students and APs would prefer to work with big names, even after they have read this thread.

Sorry, but it seems to me that you don't get to accept the prize and then distance yourself from the fraud. You signed your name to the paper. You accepted the money and the accolades. This ain't right.
BRos, read the replication:

They didn't just "lose" the code.
They lied about the code. Guest showed that, inside different occasions, when you do what they say they did in the tests the results disappear.
This is log(naics) but getting caught.
