    I'll grant you that having C1-C5 (econometrics), C6 (computational) and C7 (game theory) in a single JEL category is frustrating.

    I want to say a firm NO on the JEL codes. Does anyone honestly expect department secretaries to fill in the data when they have no f*cking clue what the JEL codes are?

    JEL classification is horribly outdated and flawed and I see no reason we have to follow it.

    I like the idea of using JEL, if only because JOE also uses JEL.

    I don't like the idea of a free-for-all because then some people will put "micro," some will put "theory," and some will put "microeconomics," and it'll all be difficult to sort.
