which one is best in LR?
JOLE vs AEJ:Applied
-
Publishing in either of these journals can actually hurt you on the job market. JOLE sends a signal that you are only capable of running regressions and not doing serious economics. And AEJ might as well put an add in the paper that you were rejected from the AER. At research places, this is a killer.

In my department AEJ:Applied, AEJ:Policy, AEJ:Macor >> JOLE
although JOLE still seen as a very good hit.
I faced this very decision recently and picked JOLE. JOLE is one of the top field journals in any field. AEJ:Applied is growing quickly in prestige, but to almost any department JOLE is considered a very good hit.
