Hi all,
I've had a small change of heart. Even though it is now very rare to see something sexist or racist on EJMR, especially with the bot taking care of almost everything within minutes, I'm going to implement some new rules.
Soon every post will be evaluated at the time of posting. There will be a specific set of words that your post will be evaluated against, which will check for racist or sexist words.
If you post something that violates this set of keywords your IP will be stored and you will be blocked from future posting for at least 3 days. After this it will be automatically deleted from the list. You will be able to appeal this ban by sending an email or by registering for an account to bypass the check. You can use a throwaway email account to appeal if you don't wish to reveal yourself.
I had this change of heart as I felt that there is insufficient punishment for bad behavior, and the burden falls on the moderators and users. Even though sexism and racism was no longer a problem on EJMR, it required too much work for moderators to enforce without assistance. This bad behavior is likely carried out by a few unwanted users who are being too offensive and are not representative of this community. The reality is that EJMR is mainstream now, if we wish to maintain that position then we will evolve with some new rules.
Of course we can still have discussions on race and gender, but posting something that is clearly racist or sexist will start to result in a ban.
This procedure will evolve over time and will begin on Monday/Tuesday. Of course there will be opportunities to game it, so enforcement won't be perfect at first, but it will improve over time.
Now time to find a Halloween costume...
Best,
FrankenKirk
