How do you guys proofread in general? I'm still not accustomed to edit in these editors.
TeXstudio has a build in pdf viewer. For proof reading I read the pdf output and then when I want to edit something I right click go to source and it takes me to source code corresponding to that paragraph then when you compile again it takes you to that part in the pdf file.

Spell checker and syntax highlighting. If you're really clever you can write a bot script that runs simultaneously with pdfLaTeX to correct your most common grammar errors/typos.
All my coauthors use SWP and I HATE it.
So what? SWP is completely compatible with normal latex. You don't like SWP, just edit the text in Texniccenter.
I use SWP and Texniccenter interchangeably. SWP for equation editing and manipulation. It is really handy if you want to do calculus and algebra because you can use copy/paste and unlike my handwriting it is always legible. I use Texniccenter for finishing, tables, graphs, compiling and bibtex.

Then why do files created in SWP that I am sent by a co-author not compile without me having to comment out the crap that SWP inserts in the tex file?
Hint: It's one line: \input{tcilatex}. Remove it, and the file will compile in texnicenter. The file will always work in SWP.
