Dude there is almost no difference in underlying quality between candidates hired by top 5 and those hired by 6-10 (or even 11-20, for that matter). And whatever difference does exist is dwarfed by the noise in the process of matching fresh PhDs with jobs.

Diego is super good; I also expected he would receive offers from Stanford GSB, Harvard, or MIT. Anyway, I am sure he will do great in the next couple of years and receive a better offer from a better department.

You do realize most APs at Northwestern don't even receive tenure, don't you?
