plot twist: super lemon is OP.
Lemon in cohort
-
wow that is exactly someone in my cohort.
I don't define lemon as someone who doesn't get good grades. I describe this lemon as someone who has a math major, but doesn't know math. Someone who writes down notes without knowing what he/she writes down. Basically someone who remembers stuff, without understanding it.

Also I assume you are in the first year?

it's very true
also patience, self-respect and self-esteem.
helpful if you have a good relationship/family - it gives you more stability. There are plenty of people who struggle in first year classes and then get one of the highest placements in class. Not everyone is on the same level at the start. And those who are more prepared in the beginning might not be as good at the other things necessary for job market success. Thread a week or two ago listed these as high intelligence, creativity and hard work.
FAMILY & Partner suppport is so important. I entered first year all happy, did well, but lost all motivation to do anything after mid-2nd year due to the constant stress, spending every Friday/Saturday/Sunday night alone.

It would be interesting to know if the OP thinks the same three years later. Never judge people from class work, that’s a horrible predictor of research success. Some who aren’t great in classes get best placement and get tenure at a great school. Some people who killed it in classes don’t even finish because they aren’t creative (please don’t start with racial nonsense).
Lemons can’t be judged until five years after graduation. Even your professors have a hard time predicting who will be successful sometimes, even after observing everyone during the entire PhD program. So don’t get cocktail.

I was a lemony lemon, placed near the bottom of my HRM cohort, but now I'm top 4/15 (publications wise) in my cohort 5 years out!
you tracked down all 14 cohort members, went through their CVs one by one, so you could rank yourself, AFTER 5 years?
Are you fking low self esteemed or what? LOL. jfc.
