Which one is better
LSE PhD vs Oxford Dphil

Which one is better
Whichever one you got into
It’s likely I’ll also get the other offer. I’m not looking for an academic career in particular and more interested in options in international institutions.
Then choose the first one that admitted you. First movers advantage

OP here, I got LSE but not sure I will like living in London. Especially on a 22k stipend. I have big UK preferences and didn’t apply to the US.

OP. Do you have a topic? And a good potential match to an advisor who's going to be helpful, because once the coursework is done, that's what's going to matter.
One other thing: Oxford is a good place to live as a student. London can be tough.I don't really have a research question. I'd like to work at an international institution. I think I could find good advisors at both places. Oxford seems to place better at IMF/WB but they only show three years of placements

If you are:
Insistent on academia, LSE without a doubt.
Ambivalent between both, then pick based on which environment you prefer. Oxford is evidently more laid back, more beautiful, and a better scholarly environment. Bear in mind that you would most likely not end up in academia though.
Preference towards international institutions, then Oxford ftw -
You are delusional if you prefer Oxford over LSE. LSE is by far the best university in Europe for Econ, for both institutional and academic roles. Going to Oxford over LSE only shows that you are lured by name and reputation. You should care about the training, network and quality of the programme, not the name. And to be honest, within the IMF and WB, the LSE name carries the same or more weight than Oxford, because these people know the difference between LSE and Oxford in terms of research output. Of course, it won't be the same when you tell your grandma... but who cares

OP, go to LSE if you want to deal with people like this for the rest of your life

Thanks for your comment. But is it not the case that Oxford places better at the IMF/WB than LSE? Also the median LSE placement doesn't look this different from the median Oxford placement.

If more students from Oxford go to IMF/WB is because they don't end up getting a job in academia, not that Oxford places better than LSE for these institutions. Controlling for individual skills, both unis place equally well for those institutions, it really makes no difference.

So you're saying it doesn't really matter which one I go to
