Rich Shanghainese send their children to international school such as SAS, then to american universities. Almost all of them return to China immediately after graduation. In recent years only people from average families have chosen to stay and work in the US. They are attracted by the high pay and the wlb culture, and nothing else. Why not Switzerland? Well, It's just that Switzerland doesn't welcome immigrants.
The young generations really loves the CCP, unlike the olders. Just talk to any Chinese undergrad in the US and you'll know it.
Btw, rich Shanghainese were not affected at all during lockdown. Yes, they may complain that a certain cheese cannot be borrowed from the neighbors and that's all.The young generations not really into politics. In fact, very few of chinese people have political views due to chinese education. They only care about money.
They come back to china because the salary is rising in China(big cities). And they are sick of being traited as foreigners in the US.

Not necessarily. Many kids never thought about staying in the states but just wanted to collect their US degrees. They have family business and things alike to take care of after graduation.

Sure, but no one ever went back to China because it offers “high wages”

many chinese students go back since its a rational choice. there is a huge green card backlog, why spend 20 years or more in uncertainty, not knowing whether your green card will arrive before you retire. no point contributing to a social security system you will not be able to benefit from in old age. better to go back to china and build a life there. shanghai and Beijing are far better than US college town in the midwest and deep south.
