Teaching f2f will be horrible for my mental health and anxiety... Same for my wife who will worry for me. Who's mental health is more important?
You are right. Lockdown for ten more years is the only solution.
I now that this is stressful. But again, this is emergency situation. The best among the worst.
I just wonder why people are not patient to suffer stress and painful for just 1 or 2 semesters. Recall, our grandparents lived during the world war. They suffered for 2-3 years and could survive. Why we can't?
ShTFU. They didn't have to live in solitary confinement for one semester. War is preferable to this szit. Anyway war is coming and then your CoronaBS will stop.

Why we can't?I don't know what you are talking about. When the world war came into my country, there was no teaching. Schools were canceled because students went to war. Those who didn't go to war started working to help making guns and clothing for soldiers. There was a complete shift in mentality and daily activities. Here, we are in the middle of a global pandemic pretending that nothing special is going on, that it is "just a flu" or whatever our schools are trying to convince us about.
The universities still ran even in the most adverse conditions. Even when they were outlawed by the Nazis, underground universities were organized. This lockdown Szit is inexcusable.

There is noone to teach if there is a full scale war in your country. May be universities run on occupied territories but that's a whole different story. Don't compare it with a war.

So, we are now even better than during the War. We still get money, even there is a pay cut of furlough. No bomb. Of course, the fighting is different (vs soldiers vs virus). But, we must deal with this as part of our journey, like what our Grandparents did. They also did not hope the War, but the World Wars happened twice . . .

Oh boy you are so naive if you don't understand what is coming.
All of you nutters who keep repeating this mantra : "we keep getting paid", "you're just being asked to stay at home". What an incredible lack of common sense!
ridiculous. most students conduct the lion's share of their social lives via their phones these days.the only issue is no opportunities for rumpy pumpy.
Mental health issues will be a problem for both demand and supply sides of higher education.
I cannot tolerate not seeing other people for much longer. I assume it's worse for young and energetic college students. If they get frustrated and interact outside their school work, there is no point in moving everything online, as long as instructors have controlled interactions with their classes (e.g., plexiglass shields, etc.)
Getting to Rumpy pumpy is the purpose of social interaction for most young people. Taking that out just leads to frustration.

Sorry, my respective colleague. I did not get what you mean. Again, I know this is emergency situation. Of course, we suffer. But again, like or dislike, we have to go this way. Part of our journey life. Likewise, nobody wants to be die - in reality everyone will be die. That's why I tried to take positive side rather than depressing. I also suffered in 1997 (Asian crisis), 2008 (Global Finance Crises). Some of my portfolio manager colleagues committed to suicide. But again, trying to survive is better than depression (and suicide).
So we are willing to sacrifice our life and health and sanity and our family members' life and health and sanity and our older colleagues life and health and sanity so that students are not bored at the mommy's basement and our football coach still gets a fat check? Is that right?

I'd like to see your face when that email from president comes announcing a 30% salary cut due to lack of enrollments.

This crisis will be worse than 1929. What happened 10 years after 1929?

Yes! All the fearful people about a virus with less mortality than the flu don't realize that this great economic depression might cause a nuclear war in which an animal species known as homo "sapiens" ceases to exist.
By the way, the 1969 Hong Kong flu killed 4 million.

I even don't know how long I could survive. Death can come anytime, can be next year, next 5 years, or even tomorrow. Who knows? But again, what I can do is just keep positive as long as I still have life . . . Magic Johnson suffered AIDS in 1990s, but he could survive for decades . . .
It is VERY sad how most people here assume that humans can socialize without face to face or eye to eye social contact.
A S P I E S
Not assumption. Best choice among the worst.
The second alternative is, we can force all Provost, Deans to resume the Universities as if there was nothing. Then, let's see how many millions will be infected or died . . .
