Say what you want about her, but there are many tenured faculty at CBS coasting off of mediocre publications they wrote 15-20 years ago. People of MP’s vintage are being asked the impossible to get tenure at top schools.

Where did Giorgia go?
How many females can you find with a better profile?
You make exactly my point. Her colleagues at Columbia observed her daily for eight years. They have a huger pressure to tenure women, even more so now that Wei and Giorgia are gone, and Tania and Simona are on the move. Yet, they still told her that she will not get tenure and should look around. I think this tells a clear story.
And those who know, know how she got her top 5s. -

Her theory papers were problem sets in Rabin's class. Ask anyone for the syllabus from back in the days and you will see a one to one mapping between that and her ECMA, Restud, and JEEA. She spent about 50 hours per paper in Rabin's office hours to solve those models and it paid off for her.
Arna is really nice and deserves tenure but is not trained to handle data of even the 5,000 people in Island.
Steffen, instead, never even took of proper class being educated and receiving a PhD from EBS, which is an obscure private business school in Germany that was bankrupt a couple of years ago.
The papers with Baker et al have people with average income of USD 1,000 so don't tell us anything of the consumption response to EIP.
Finally, the only empirical papers that are well executed are with Medina, even though one could question the relevance of the questions ;) -
I know who you are as I was just about to write the something along those lines.

You guys need to grow up. Of course there is a female premium but her top econ publications were before it was as prevalent as today. And sure, she could have fooled one top journal editor, but she published JEEA, ReStud AND Econometrica and you still think there is nothing there?
I don't like the stuff she is doing now - it is cutesy behavioral finance stuff that doesn't really add much to our general knowledge or is very specific to whatever dataset she is studying, but to call her a lightweight is just stupid.
Columbia has failed with their female hiring in general (Abis is a joke, Babina is okay but not top 50 material) but Pagel is an exception.

Anyways how hard can it be. Check Rabin’s syllabus and read her papers. It’s really just PSs. Think whatever you want. I am fed up educating people who don’t know anything. And even if you would give her the benefits of the doubt, since her theory work she has not written any work worth reading. And then it become really difficult to tenure her.
And again, her colleagues observed her day to day for 8 year. And they do have pressure to tenure women after the Ravina shooting by Geert Abend Giorgia leaving. Not even putting her up tells you that something really must be off with her and her research.
Even Cornell just offered a visiting AP gig at Dyson. Dyson.
