QF went to HEC over Ross.
Michigan’s Ross Implosion
-
Finance Professors can leave academia at any time and make 10 million a year as investment bankers and hedge fund managers. Academia needs to up salaries massively to be competitive.
This is laughable. Can you see a hedge fund hiring a regmonkey like AP or a theorist like UR? And they are not young.

Support Bowen Kou, alumni of Eli Broad College of Business, owner of fresh international market for congress republicans. We will get rid of DEI, abortion, bring back law and order and take back the stolen election. Make American great again! It’s the last chance!

Summary: TW, AM, NM, and EY leaving. Dittmars and CS left last year. Maybe some of the old guys left. They are probably down 8 or 9.
They hired one or two. That’s a huge implosion.
Made many offers and got turned down by people who went to schools that wouldn’t have dominated Ross a few years ago.
If I were the dean, I’d just hire adjuncts to teach the courses and focus my resources on the good departments in the school. It’s clear that finance can’t keep good researchers.
There is a long list of very good people who have come and gone quickly over the years. It’s not just SN, TW, and the Malenkos.

Ross MBAs seem more into consulting and tech anyway.

Ross MBAs seem more into consulting and tech anyway. These are 2 totally different conversation. There are already schools like Darden, Tuck which are very good in terms of undergrad/MBA placement but not much from research point of view. No one is saying that Ross is going to ground they still have fully functioning departments. They are just going to go irrelevant from finance research point of view nothing else.

I’m at UNC and I know for a fact that VM had a Michigan Ross offer. We won, You lost. Don’t pretend now you didn’t make the offer because you are ashamed that you are not a competitive dept anymore
VM and QF didn't have Ross offers.
This is probably the saddest brag i have ever seen. Especially involving train wrecks like VM(Columbia) and Michigan Ross.

Are any of the survivors looking to move too? e.g. SM or MS?
Did they end up hiring at least one or two? Otherwise, how can they even cover basic teaching requirements next year?Don’t know if they are looking to leave, but would you want to be there if you were a junior at this point?
