This is not a compromise, it is a sensible policy.
Most Americans would be happy with a Euro-style compromise on abortion.

How is it not a compromise?
On what planet would this be considered a "compromise" by the religious right who consider abortion at anytime following the fertilization of an egg as MURDER of a human being?
Hmmm?If they agreed to it then it would be a compromise. There are plenty of religious people who are ok with this.

The position OP described is basically the standard center-left position. It's not acceptable to the right.
OP here. I agree that most people who are center left would favor this position. At the same time, however, there is considerable left-elite opposition to any restrictions on abortion.

Wouldn't the Brazilian rule be the most acceptable for both sides?
Abortion is legal if:
- The pregnancy came as a result of sexual assault
- The baby has a deadly disease and will die at birth
- Health risk for motherOf course not.
Are you all mentally retarded?

Oh yeah. Considering reason hasn't prevailed in the USA since its inception, surely it must!
(wow...just wow...)

Hmmm? It's also murder to bomb and shoot civilians in the middle east yet they make no fuss about them and actively support a president pardoning war criminals, not to mention the countless victims of school shootings and people who die due to inadequate access to medical services.
